Natural Habitat Gardening

I’ll help you increase the biodiversity of your home garden using native plants and natural gardening techniques.

Fall 2024/ Winter 2025 update:

Thanks for visiting my website!

The Pacific Chorus Frogs are burrowed into their leaf litter and rotting log nests for the winter and that means it’s time for the “Twig” part of Frog and Twig. Whatever I am doing at any given moment this season it’s likely I’d rather be gathering, sorting, admiring and weaving twigs. You can find some of my work at Good Year Farms (please come to the November 30th Holiday Market) and other locations to be decided.

Classes: I have a couple of classes in mind for this Winter so please follow me on Instagram for updates!

Custom Projects: I can do small-scale custom woven projects, see “services” below for a few more details or reach out to me with your idea!

Please follow me on Instagram for updates on openings and special projects or classes or check back here anytime.

Please use the contact form if you have any questions or you would like me to keep you in mind for a specific project when my schedule opens up.

I’m very excited for the upcoming growing season!

  • Erin Figy - Pacific NW Native Plant and Habitat Gardening Enthusiast. Natural Twig Art.

I have always loved gardens and nature. For the past 15 years my gardening has focused almost exclusively on native plants and natural, habitat-friendly gardening. I love creating vibrant, home garden habitats that enhance biodiversity.

My approach to gardening is centered around using natural, locally available materials, propagating native and pollinator-friendly plants, and fostering a community of sharing – be it plants, knowledge, or exciting discoveries in the habitat garden.

My approach with my willow and other twig weaving is to create 100% natural, biodegradable items that will never burden you with the knowledge that the material they are made of will outlast you in a landfill. People often ask how long my projects will last. And, in my humble opinion, they last just about the right amount of time before you would have started thinking it was time for something new anyways. Who wants the same sculpture or garden art in the same place forever anyways? It’s fun to change things up and when you do, nature will continue to find my twig works useful as they biodegrade.

In my own Backyard Habitat Garden I grow as many native plants as I can fit. Last I counted I had about 70 different locally native plants in my suburban lot. Having a Backyard Habitat is a self-reinforcing hobby, add native plants and you will be amazed at the new insects that find it nearly right away, you will then want to plant more natives and be even more amazed and on it goes!

I love sharing plants and have been able to donate hundreds of native plants to local elementary schools and other community gardens. I have spent 5-years as an elementary school garden coordinator and am very passionate about getting children excited about nature and ecology.

Where do I source my twigs? In my home garden I grow dozens of varieties of willow including 4 native species plus other native plants that are excellent for weaving, especially Beaked Hazel, Redtwig Dogwood, Pacific Ninebark and Ocean Spray. I also maintain a small scale plot of 200 willows on private property in Camas and if you ever have me over as a friend in the Winter don’t be surprised if I ask you if you want any help pruning your shrubs… :)

Please reach out with your questions or ideas!

  • Services

Frog and Twig is in the season of Twigs. I am busy creating woven plant supports and working on small, custom on-site projects such as garden archways and gazebos.

    Habitat Gardening and Design

I will learn about your site, your goals and priorities and work with you to develop an overall garden design. Then I’ll help you work towards those goals step by step.

New to native plants and don’t know where to start? Overwhelmed by too many garden projects all at once?

I’m great at figuring out where to start and prioritizing projects in the garden. A new perspective and a helping hand might be just the thing to help you get back on track. I work best when we can start with a small project and expand over time, building on the success of the previous project.

Twig Season (November - Early March)

Handmade willow obelisks , plant supports, garden path archways & garden art. Small custom installations on a case-by-case basis.

Dormant willow cuttings and potted willows, many varieties.

Drip Irrigation for the Small Home Garden

I specialize in creating and installing simple, above ground drip irrigation systems. I will then teach you to monitor, adjust and troubleshoot the system yourself without needing to pay anyone to inspect or dig anything up to fix.
